The Notes App Is More Useful Than You Think

There’s a good chance your phone already has a notes app. It’s easy to overlook because it doesn’t have the excitement of a new camera or the convenience of a messaging app. Yet a simple notes app can become one of the handiest places to keep information you don’t want to forget.
You can use it for shopping lists, meal ideas, questions to ask at your next appointment, or the name of a book someone recommended. Instead of searching for a scrap of paper later, everything can stay in one place.
Notes can also be useful when you’re travelling. Keep a list of your accommodation details, places you’d like to visit, restaurant recommendations, or things you need to pack. If your notes are synchronised with your account, you may even be able to access them from another device.
Another useful feature is the ability to create checklists. This works particularly well for recurring tasks. You could create a holiday packing list, a list of things to check before leaving the house, or a set of questions to take to an appointment.
Some notes apps can also scan documents, add photographs, record audio, or turn handwritten notes into digital text. You don’t need to use every feature, but knowing they’re available can save you from downloading several separate apps.
Just remember to be careful with sensitive information. A notes app isn’t necessarily the right place for passwords, banking details, or other private information unless the note can be properly secured.
If you’ve never really used your phone’s notes app, start with something simple. Create a grocery list and see how it feels compared with writing one on paper.
