Make a List of Places You Still Want to Visit

There’s always somewhere you’ve meant to go. It might be a small coastal town you’ve driven past for years, a garden you’ve read about, or a part of New Zealand that’s been on your list since you were young. Whatever it is, writing those places down is the first step towards turning “one day” into a real plan.
Your list doesn’t have to include expensive overseas holidays. Some of the most rewarding trips are only an hour or two from home. A scenic railway, a wildlife sanctuary, a historic village, or a quiet beach you’ve never explored can make for a memorable day out.
Once you’ve made your list, choose one destination and give yourself a realistic timeframe. It could be next month or even next season. Having a date in mind makes it far more likely that you’ll actually go, rather than letting another year slip by.
If travelling alone doesn’t appeal to you, invite a friend, neighbour, or family member to join you. You could even take turns choosing the destination, giving each outing a different flavour. Sharing the experience often makes the journey just as enjoyable as the place itself.
Don’t forget to include simple adventures close to home. Visiting a nearby farmers’ market, taking a ferry you’ve never been on, or spending an afternoon in a regional park can feel just as refreshing as a longer holiday. The goal isn’t to travel the furthest. It’s to keep exploring.
As you tick places off your list, add new ones. Curiosity doesn’t have an expiry date, and there’s always another corner of the country waiting to be discovered. You may even find that the places you enjoy most are the ones you hadn’t planned to visit at all.
