Your Browser Can Do More Than You Think

For many people, a web browser is simply the tool that opens the internet. You type in a website, read the information you need, and close the tab. But modern browsers include a range of features that can make everyday browsing faster, easier, and more organised.
One of the most useful tools is bookmarks. If you regularly visit your bank, favourite news website, local council page, or weather forecast, saving them as bookmarks means you won’t have to search for them each time. Organising bookmarks into folders, such as “Travel,” “Health,” or “Shopping,” makes them even easier to find.
Tabs are another feature worth mastering. Instead of closing one page before opening the next, you can keep several websites open at the same time and switch between them with a single click. It’s particularly handy when comparing prices, planning a holiday, or researching a new purchase.
If text on a webpage is difficult to read, try increasing the page size. Most browsers let you zoom in with a simple keyboard shortcut or through the menu. This enlarges the entire page without affecting the way it’s displayed, making reading much more comfortable.
Many browsers also remember your passwords if you choose to save them securely. Combined with a strong password and two-factor authentication, this can make signing in to trusted websites quicker while reducing the temptation to reuse the same password everywhere.
Finally, don’t forget the search bar itself. It can do much more than search for websites. You can use it to convert measurements, calculate sums, check the weather, or look up the meaning of a word without visiting multiple websites.
A few small discoveries can make technology feel much less intimidating. The more familiar you become with your browser, the more useful it becomes for everything from everyday errands to planning your next adventure.
